Ensure all students have skilled teachers who actively use technology to meet student learning needs.
Using-STEAM-in-your-classroomThis artifact is a piece of collaborative professional development work which aligns with the ISTE standard 1a. It helps participants to articulate and improve their working proficiency. The purpose of the PD session is to introduce the STEAM model to the classroom. In other words, technology and science will work with arts in every learning subject to build a harmonious learning environment for the students. Participants will be able to address the importance of the STEAM model and identify students’ learning needs basing on the ISTE standards for education leaders and the advice from BC Digital Framework.
I designed some professional training projects back in my previous job. After accomplishing the PD session project, I realized that producing technology-based PD sessions is more complicated than the traditional ones. I tried to lecture for hours without noticing the participants’ learning needs, and the whole session was not engageable as I expected. With the help of ISTE standards, the advanced PD session considers every possible element and addresses the learning outcomes accurately. Furthermore, the whole session provides multiple learning activities and learning methods to fulfill the differentiation among participants. The process of producing this PD session opened my vision as an instructional designer. It also allows me to improve my professional and teamwork skills at the same time.

Implementing the PD session to the practicing fields requires more content and interactive ideals. I would not say this training suits every educator, but it has become a prototype that provides me with basic theory and motivation. You can find the NASA website as the primary tool to support STEAM learning. However, it does not mean it is the best STEAM tool to help students connect science and art to their learning environment. As education leaders, we need constantly develop better training plans and efficient teaching skills. Therefore, standard 1a is the fundamental theory that stimulates the 21st-century digital teaching and learning environment.
